A Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE) student of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Sung Kyu Kim lived and worked over five months in rural town of Kibungo in Rwanda. Sung Kyu will recount his first-hand experience and key lessons learned during his five-month internship through Go Global ISL*/AUCC Student for Development (SFD) Program.
Sung Kyu worked closely in collaboration with rural university of INATEK to conduct a baseline assessment of food security and nutrition in Ngoma District. Through his research findings, he proposes “simple and obvious” strategies and interventions to improve the livelihood of subsistence farming community by tackling food insecurity, maternal and child nutrition, and sustainable economic development.
