hello
It has now been a few weeks here in Mwanza, Tanzania and they have been great so far. Over the past few weeks I have really been able to establish what I can help with here at FONELSICO. There seems to be a need for some organizational structure, which hopefully I can complete for them including; job descriptions, policies and procedures and staff training. I feel that if the organization has a more concrete structure there may be opportunity to increase the amount of donors. Many donors have been asking for further information about operating procedures so they can understand the organization and where their money is going. I hope to complete these tasks during my 3 months here.
Also it has been interesting adapting to the culture here, which is very different than Canada. There is much more singing and dancing here than in Canada.
At the end of this month the other intern and I hope to travel to Nairobi to attend a food safety conference for eastern Africa. After which I hope to hold a food safety-training day for the staff here at FONELISCO with the help of a translator. Also at home I have completed food safety training but I feel that it will be different here because of the different cooking methods and storing methods.
Hope everyone else is enjoying their stay abroad.
