Daylight

Having gotten used to darkness by 6 o’clock, I am amazed to have daylight until 9 in the evening here. At 5:30 last week, you’d have found me basking outside in the sunlight – giddy and in utter disbelief that the rays still beat down strength and warmth – and at half past 7, quite incredulous when told the time of day.

It seems odd to say, but I continue to find it novel that the summer sun stays up so late at night, even though I’ve spent the my entire life (minus these past three months) at this type of latitude. I wonder when my fascination with this extended summer daylight will rub off!

Longing for bed before 10 (sometimes as early as half eight) in Malawi, I am now back to my typical sleeping habits – late-to-bed, late-to-rise. The plan to take my good early-to-bed, early-to-rise habits back to the northern hemisphere has been dashed!
