Welcome to the Students for Development Blog
The Students for Development (SFD) blog provides a venue for international development interns to share ideas, opinions, thoughts, images and videos of the successes and challenges of their work and stay abroad.
Purpose of the Students for Development Blog
The purpose of the SFD blog is to encourage interns to:
- relate their experiences,
- maximize what they contribute to and take away from the program,
- discuss development issues, and
- learn from one another.
Students can convey their insights on the following topics:
- governance, health and environmental sustainability,
- gender equality,
- public engagement activities,
- cross-cultural experiences,
- tips,
- lessons learned, and
- challenges related to re-entry into Canada upon completion of their internships.
About the Students for Development Program
The Students for Development program supports senior-level university students (third and fourth-year undergraduates through to PhD students) to participate in internships for a minimum of three months in partner developing countries.
The objectives of the program are:
- to increase collaboration between Canadian universities and developing country partners in order to build capacity in governance, health and the environmental sector;
- to contribute to students’ learning and understanding of international development;
- to provide students with work experience that complements their field of study and career goals; and
- to better inform and engage the Canadian public on Canada’s contribution to international development efforts.
Internships are managed through a decentralized approach, with AUCC member institutions responsible for designing and implementing the internships while ensuring that all program requirements are met. The program is made possible with the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency.
